Fracture

I seem to have a bad habit of breaking glass.

When I moved into my first college apartment, the windshield on the U-Haul cracked. When I road tripped down Route 66 in Arizona, a rock from a dump truck cracked the windshield. When moving a pipe for my friends garden, the windshield cracked. When I moved into my next apartment, I also got a chip in the windshield. I’ve even broken the glass on one of my 3D printer projects.

Why can acts of motion be so unintentionally destructive?

Is it a matter of risk? Is it just dumb luck?

Objects at rest tend to stay at rest and have a lower chance of impact.

I’ve heard the expression “you can’t make an omelette without breaking some eggs”. I ponder if all acts of creation are inherently destructive in some manner. You can’t construct a building without mining ore, melting it down, and making steel.

So I guess our actions are all about maximizing positive impact and minimizing negative impact. This is somewhat analogous to engineering efficiency where the optimal design produces the most work for the least input.)

But is it possible to make anything without some negative impact?

I dunno, I’m still making and breaking but trying to get better everyday.

Making and breaking, and then building and making again is a good thing.
